Wideband BiM series transceivers

A guide to the BiM2A/C/G & BiM3A/C/G modules (& the BiM3H)

LOW COST, HIGH DATA RATE, SINGLE CHANNEL TRANSCEIVERS

This family of common pin-out and function transceiver modules from Radiometrix offers an economical, easily used, high data rate, bi-directional low power wireless link, fully compatible with other (TX and RX) wideband products
Consisting of a pinout-consistent family of transceivers covering 433MHz, 869MHz and 914MHz frequencies, in a range of TX power output options (to at least 25mW) this family provides simple, effective bi-directional radio functionality in a very compact form-factor.

Key features

Wideband (data rates up to 64kbit/sec)
Easily understood single channel operation
Best-in-class RF performance.
Consistent easy-to-use SIL footprint (48x17mm RX, 32x12mm TX)
Available on a number of popular spot frequencies (in 433MHz, and 869 or 915MHz bands)
Conform to EN 300 220-3 (category two/three) and EN 301 489-3
Various test and evaluation Boards available
Compatible with the wideband SIL receiver and transmitter families

APPLICATIONS

Like the simpler SIL TX/RX families, the BiM type modules are equally suited to short ranged, commercial applications such as nurse call system, electronic scoreboard display, wheel balancing, Laser tag is a recreational shooting sport, automated guided vehicle, temperature and pressure monitoring in industrial process, and basic security/alarm systems.
However, they also offer an added level of sophistication by virtue of their bi-directional nature, allowing the user to easily implement transmit/acknowledge signalling techniques, beacon-synchronised networks and any number of two-way data transfer methodologies.

Beyond the basic family

This class of wideband radios are usually associated with short ranged (low TX power) applications.
However, there is a sub-band in the 869MHz allocation (around 869.5MHz) where up to 500mW is allowed (with a 10% duty cycle limit). For applications in this band, the BiM3H can be used. This module (the transceiver equivalent to the TX3H transmitter) shares the same pin-out as the lower powered BiMs, but delivers enough power that a range of over a mile can be expected with good aerials.

An improved sub-family of transceivers (BiM2D/3D) will soon be released, providing the performance and pin-out of the existing wideband BiM modules, but with enhanced RF performance (better adjacent and blocking selectivity) and re-programmable (via a serial command string) channel frequency

The BiM family modules are simple ā€œraw baseband interfaceā€ radios. However, if the convenience of a ā€œmodem typeā€ serial port interface is needed, they are fully compatible with both the i9600 and M48 modem chips

Evaluation & Application Boards

To further simplify the implementation of user designs, a number of application/demo boards are offered, with all necessary connectors and a wide selection of support and interface circuitry.
The UNI-EVAL demonstration board has BiM package connectors, while BiM footprint carrier boards can be supplied for the NBEK test station. The full range of Radiometix's control and (previously mentioned) modem chips (CTA88, CTR124 and Smallcontroller, to name a few) can also be used with these easily used modules.
